Bombala’s desperate water situation eases

01 Jul, 2009 10:06 AM
THE community has been thoroughly enjoying an easing in the town’s very strict water restrictions, with Bombala having moved from the highest Level 5 status down to Level 2 as of last Wednesday, June 24.

As of Monday, June 29 the Bombala water supply was at a reasonably impressive 78% capacity (280mm below the top of the weir wall), with the recent snowfall and showers having made a considerable difference to the dwindling levels at the Coolumbooka Weir.

The Level 2 water restrictions require users to adhere to the following regulations:

• Handheld hoses, buckets, and watering cans to be used between 5pm and 7am.

• In-ground irrigation systems with timer (maximum of half an hour) to be used between 5pm and 8am.

• No restrictions on washing of motor vehicles.

• Washing of paved and sealed surfaces to take place between 8am and 10pm.

• Watering of bowling greens (maximum of two hours per period) between 4pm and 7pm.

Residents are urged to carefully adhere to the above limitations, with a penalty of $220 applying for non-observance of water restrictions.

Council will be monitoring the level of the Coolumbooka Weir on a frequent basis, and will use the Bombala Times to advise of any changes to the water restriction level for local users.
