THE children they care for already know how wonderful they are, but now two of our locally based Monaro Family Day Care workers have certificates to prove it!
Yvonne Ingram and Dianne Ingram were both nominated for the Fisher-Price Child Care Worker of the Year Award for 2008-09, and although not winning, both have been presented with certificates to commend their nomination.
The Australian Family Child Care Awards certificates were received by the local workers last month, and formally acknowledge both for their ‘outstanding achievement in child care’.
Yvonne and Dianne explain that local mother, Heather Rowlinson nominated them for the award, answering a series of questions about each of their roles, and then approaching other parents for letters of support.
These letters flowed in with great enthusiasm, and some wonderful praise was given for Yvonne and Dianne, who have both been with Monaro Family Day Dare for over ten years, and in child care for many years previous.
In the actual nomination, Heather wrote that Yvonne, known as ‘Onnie’ to the children, takes interest in every child as the “special little person they are”.
“By listening, involving and encouraging, as well as setting down rules and guidelines for the children to play within, a respect is built,” she wrote.
“Onnie is very special to all of the children in her care.”
And the parent letters were equally as complimentary, many speaking of Yvonne going that extra mile for the families with children in her care, with lengthy hours, and specific needs all catered for with a smile.
“Yvonne holds a very special place in our lives for parents and children,” one mother wrote.
“For those of us whose families live far away, Yvonne has become part of the family. It would be difficult to find a person more worthy of this award.”
Another said, “The wonderful, safe, child friendly environment that Onnie... [has] put a lot of effort and thought to for the children in care to enjoy is truly a statement and a reflection of how much [she] loves to care for our children.”
Of course the letters and nominations also spoke of the many activities that Yvonne provides for the different aged children she cares for, and spoke of the children learning and developing under her watchful and caring eye.
And Dianne’s nomination was just as glowing, with Heather speaking of her devotion to the children and the thought she puts into their many and varied day care activities.
“She encourages the children to be as independent as possible and to think for themselves, whilst getting on with others,” Heather wrote.
“I am really impressed by how Dianne encourages the older children to care for the younger ones.”
The parents all spoke of Dianne’s nurturing nature and her knowledge on child development, but also the excitement their children express when heading to day care.
“My children have a warm, affectionate, interactive and respectful relationship with Di, and always enjoy their time at her house and elsewhere [during day care excursions],” says one mother.
“Dianne treats the children as she would her own and she provides a completely loving homelike environment for all of the children,” wrote another.
Naturally both Yvonne and Dianne have been delighted with the kind words of the families they care for, and were thrilled when Heather presented them both with a folder displaying their nomination and the letters of support that flowed in.
They both offer their grateful thanks both to Heather for her incredible effort, and the parents for their ongoing support, and said they were very pleased with the lovely recognition they have received for a job they cherish.
