Lou Lou’s doors open

26 Oct, 2011 08:09 AM
WITH great excitement having built over Bombala’s latest main street business, locals have been delighted to finally find out what lies within the newly opened Lou Lou’s.

With secrecy surrounding the new business right up until its exclusive preview on Saturday night, anticipation had built as to what sort of shop local lady, Penny Campbell would be opening.

And as most would now know, it’s actually a delightful mixture of gorgeous things which encompasses everything from unique jewellery, giftware and furniture through to designer clothing and accessories.

Lou Lou’s has a quirky, funky feel that is truly charming, and there is a real focus on Australian made, often hand-crafted items that appeal to all ages and styles.

Penny and her husband, Peter have even custom made their counters and display stands, with everything created from recycled timber and other cleverly used materials.

So what will you find on the shelves? Passers-by may have first noticed the designer clothing on display, with Penny stocking the Aunty Ollie range, soon to be known as Quince Clothing.

This ultra popular range is designed by former Bombala local, Jodie Hampshire, and we’ll share the fascinating story behind her colourful ladies, babies and children’s wear in a coming issue.

Rest assured it’s a great tale, and the clothes themselves are not only of a very high quality and super fashionable, they’re affordable as well.

Happily, this goes for the bulk of Lou Lou’s lovely stock.

Take for example the Billija jewellery especially designed and created for the local store by a talented Cobargo jewellery maker, and the divine Patti Flynn custom made soaps from tropical north Queensland.

Then there’s the Seedling range of inspired gifts for children, and the beautiful array of items made of natural materials like driftwood and acacia wood.

But Penny hasn’t only searched the countryside for quirky handmade items, she has crafted many of her own.

With the help of her little team Penny has made a huge collection of unique creations including cushions, wheat bags, cards, albums, aprons, corsages, fascinators and canvases.

This includes the lovingly sewn ‘Chazmania’ hats that have to be seen to be really appreciated, while Pete’s barbed balls and wicked wire shades offer “a little bit of farmer in every twist”.

There truly is something to delight everyone, and a range of cook books, gourmet oils, choc coated coffee beans and chopping boards help round out the experience for those shopping for gifts.

Even better Lou Lou’s offers a gift wrapping service and eftpos for convenience, and is introducing a VIP Club for those who spend $100 or more.

This qualifies you for a 10% discount off future sales (excluding sale items), a special on your birthday and invites into exclusive Lou Lou’s events, and you’ll also receive the regular newsletter.

It’s all extremely exciting, and Penny was delighted with the response to her preview night, and to finally throw open the doors on Monday.

“I’ve always wanted to open a little shop in Bombala, and was greatly inspired by places like Tilba,” she said.

“It’s been a real family thing, with Pete and my sister Rachel being really involved and helping make Lou Lou’s what it is.

“The whole thing is also a loving nod to my mum, who just adored going around little shops like this. Her nickname was Lou Lou, and the name fits perfectly!”
