Monaro Woman of the Year

03 Feb, 2010 09:05 AM
MONARO MP, Steve Whan is reminding local residents to nominate for the 2010 Monaro Woman of the Year Award by February 22.

The nomination period has been extended to ensure people who were away during the holiday period still have an opportunity to nominate women in the community.

“So far we have had a good response, but we wanted to ensure that all worthy Monaro women have an opportunity to be nominated,” Mr Whan said.

“I know that there are plenty more local women out there who deserve to be nominated, so I am urging their friends, neighbours, co-workers and family members to nominate them before the cut off.”

Mr Whan will present the 2010 Monaro Woman of the Year winner with a certificate as well as a $100 cheque to be given to a local charity of the winner’s choice.

“There are so many local women whose contributions, successes and achievements encourage and inspire others in the community,” he said.

“Last year, Cooma resident Laurine Mugridge was selected as 2009 Monaro’s Woman of the Year for being a tireless worker for many community organisations and initiatives, in particular her efforts working for Meals on Wheels for more than 40 years.

Nomination forms are available on 1800 654 199, or by emailing monaro@parliament.nsw.gov.au Nominations close on Monday, February 22, 2010.
