WELL, it certainly looks like I jinxed us last week by mentioning the ‘calm before the storm’, because the storm certainly broke on Thursday morning with the break and enters which have already been reported in this week’s paper. I should have kept my thoughts to myself.
We also had more reports of fuel being stolen from the Mount Cooper and Ando areas, with 200 litres of diesel stolen from one location within the last week. Again, I advise farmers and property managers to keep an eye on your fuel stores and report any discrepancies to us.
Lavender House was targeted by brainless idiots armed with a spray can last week. The ‘artists’ thought it would be a great to demonstrate their ‘superior intelligence’ by spraying a three letter word on the rear gate of the Information Centre.
A Cooma man, who also thought he possessed a high IQ, decided he would drive to Cooma after a night out in Bombala on Saturday, May 9.
Unfortunately for him, his belief that all police had finished for the night proved horribly wrong and he has since been issued a court attendance notice for a number of offences such as ‘Drive at a Speed Dangerous to the Public’ after his speed was estimated by police to be at about 185k/m/h between Nimmitabel and Cooma.
He is looking at getting a lot of exercise in the very near future when the court disqualifies his drivers licence for the second time in a year when he appears before the magistrate.
Further reports have been received about illegal hunters in the Creewah and Steeple Flat area. We have been doing some very extensive patrols of the area, and as yet have not located anyone doing anything illegal, however the patrols will continue for the rest of eth peak season and beyond.
Anyone with information about these activities is encouraged to contact either your local Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. You can remain anonymous if you so wish.
One last thing, a gentleman attended the Station on Saturday morning and dropped off a dog he found wandering along Delegate Road last Saturday. She is a black Labrador cross or similar with a white chest and toes, with a lovely temperament.
She is obviously well loved and the type of dog that would be a great family pet. I kept her at the station for the weekend, hoping someone would come looking, but alas no one came, so she is now at the pound.
If you have lost your best mate, and this little dog sounds like her, please get in contact with the Council and you can be reunited. I seriously wanted to keep her, but one of my shepherds was none too pleased with the addition to the household.
Anyway, that’s it for this week, please take care and drive safely.
Yours in Crime Fighting
