G’day everyone, I hope a great week was had by all. Policing wise we were pretty idle with very few incidents reported to us.
As this report is usually written on the weekend before the date of issue, most people would already be aware that since last week’s column, we have had two more cases of break and enter in our town. The first occurred on the night of Monday, October 19 and involved a hairdresser in Maybe Street. The offenders caused a bit of damage getting in, but it appears that they only managed to steal some hair products. Numerous fingerprints were found on the doors and other areas of the shop, so hopefully they can be matched to prints currently on file.
Sometime between Sunday and Wednesday of last week, someone broke into the bar area of the Bombala Race Course and stole a large quantity of alcohol left behind after the race meeting. Further enquiries are being made relating to a vehicle seen at the location during that time. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Last Monday, October 19, a vehicle lost a wheel as it turned from Forbes Street into Mahratta Street. The driver then turned around and drove back up Forbes Street on three wheels leaving a rather long score mark on the road surface and damage to the vehicle. Police investigations are continuing.
If you live near the intersection of Mercy and Burton Streets in town, and lost phone contact on Monday October 26, the reason is that a removalist van collided with the Telstra lines at that location and the pole they were attached to fell over. The lines had to be cut after it was determined that a replacement pole was a number of hours away.
Occasionally we have items handed into the police station that obviously belong to someone, and we do our best to return the item to its owner. Such is the case with a mountain bike that was found in Jonas Street. If you have lost your environmentally friendly mode of transport and think we have it here, give us a call and describe it. If your description matches the bike currently languishing in our cell, we will reunite you.
Last Thursday saw the Local Court sit, however not many cases were actually resolved, those that were are below:
A man from Bombala was issued a bond after being found guilty of riding an unregistered and uninsured motorcycle whilst unlicensed. His co-offender, a second man, received a similar punishment for the same offences.
A woman of Bibbenluke also received a good behaviour bond for a matter which had her charged with malicious damage, trespass and three cases of intimidation.
A man was convicted of possessing a prohibited drug and given a bond.
A man was convicted of driving with a low range prescribed concentration of alcohol and fined $700 plus $76 in court costs. He was also disqualified from driving for three months.
The Local Court sits again on December 10 with the majority of cases from last Thursday set for completion on that date.
Well that is it for this weeks wrap up. By next week we will have farewelled our colleague Grant Norris, better known to everyone as Chucky. He is off to greener pastures in Gundagai, and on behalf of Les and Jason, I wish him and his family all the best. It has been a pleasure working with you mate, and thanks for all the help you gave me as I learnt to be a cop in a small country town. You will be sorely missed.
Until next week, take care and stay safe.
