COLOURFUL head gear was to be seen all over the area last Friday, October 29, with everyone from our youngest citizens to those at Currawarna getting behind National Bandanna Day.
For those unsure, National Bandanna Day is the annual awareness day and fundraising event for CanTeen - The Australian Organisation for Young People
Living with Cancer.
Once a year CanTeen asks people to buy a bandanna and wear it to show their support, with our local business people not only emblazoning themselves with colour on Friday, but also selling the bandannas to others within the community.
Leading the way once again this year were the staff of Bombala Electrical who always throw themselves behind the charity day, which is considered to be an opportunity to raise much-needed funds and promote awareness in the community.
So why bandannas? Certain forms of cancer treatment result in hair loss and many young people choose to wear a bandanna during this time. It is for this reason that the bandanna was chosen as a symbol for CanTeen.
The CanTeen bandannas are bright, lots of fun and feature the lively CanTeen logo designed by Ken Done, and were proudly worn by many locals throughout the entire day on Friday.
If you missed out on grabbing one, however, you can still show your support for CanTeen by making a donation to GPO Box 3821, Sydney, 2001, or by calling (02) 9262 1022.
