FAMILY and Carers Support SAHS is excited to announce a long overdue initiative - a holiday program for children and young people who are living in families or households where there is mental illness.
"Many of us take holidays for granted. A holiday is something we all have. But having a holiday or a break away can be difficult for children and young people living in families where there is mental illness. Many families can't afford it or it may just be too difficult," co-ordinator Leanne Craze said. "For example, a parent may not be well enough to be able to organise it or a family member's ill health may make it difficult for the family to get away. This new initiative is free and will enable this group of children and young people to get a break away with others of their own age."
A holiday camp will be held at Batemans Bay from January 6 to 10 for up to 50 young people.
An experience common to all of the young people attending, is that they are supporting, caring or living with a family member or someone else who has significant health care needs or support needs as a result of illness or disability.
The camp, catering for 7-17 year olds, will be lots of fun and will provide a range of activities including sports, crafts, arts, bush walks, swimming etc. Transport from Queanbeyan, Cooma and Bombala will be arranged.
