LAST Saturday evening saw a large crowd of over 300 from both the local area and further afield enjoying the highly anticipated 27th Annual Cathcart Variety Show.
Again the tent was set up complete with a television link to accommodate the meals and those who had difficulty finding a seat inside.
The show proved another hugely successful night for the Cathcart community, raising much-needed funds to continue to maintain and make improvements to the Hall.
People again travelled from far and wide to both perform and be part of the audience. Many people have now placed Cathcart on their itinerary of shows to see each year and arrive the night before in readiness.
We had as usual a great mix of old regulars, those friends who have not been for a few years and some exciting new artists.
The hall, as is always the case filled up quickly, and was near to full as the show got underway at 4pm. The old building rocked well into the night, with the last act finishing reluctantly around midnight.
The show was again co-compared by Ernie Constance and Jay Podger and this has proven to be a highly successful and entertaining combination, and we thank Ernie and Jay for their hard work and professionalism.
Thanks also go to Wilf Giles and John Podger for their hard work back stage to ensure the smooth running of the night.
Wilf is to be commended on his hard work in organising the program for the night, this is a huge, time consuming task, which he as usual completed with great efficiency.
Artists to perform on the night included Ernie Constance, Jay Podger, Joe Mundy, Ron Ellul, Alan Neal, John Podger, Becky Kelland, Matt Kimber and Doug, Ron Milliner, Jeff Johnson, Lindsey Connolly, Daryl Ingram, Gus Olding and Stephan.
We were again privileged to be able to showcase promising young locals, Michael Green, Too Cool For School (AKA Luke Platts, Tyler Jones and Thomas Hall ably assisted by Scott Guthrie), and Scott and Duane Hepburn.
This is following in the successful long Cathcart tradition of fostering and promoting new talent.
We thank all of the artists for giving so freely of their time and talents.
We also again had apologies from several regular artists who were unable to attend due to other commitments or illness. These include John and Edith Pratt, Barry Martin and Vicki Walsh.
A surprising and highly entertaining walk-up act also appeared in the form of Shelley from Sydney, who is a truly talented opera singer with a magical voice.
This was a genuine variety show, containing everything from bush poetry, through instrumentals, comedy, rock and country to ballads and now even operetta.
It goes without saying that the crowd was again treated to the usual high quality food for dinner and supper.
Congratulations again to the Cathcart community on the fantastic, high quality annual event they put on.
