Southeast Axeman’s Association
Pambula Show Report
Attendance by some well performed axemen and women at Pambula Show on Saturday kept the crowd on their toes for most of the afternoon.
A new permanent enclosure to the wood chopping arena, together with very prompt removal of blocks and chips following each contest added to the enjoyment of events.
Major Sponsors were Southeast Fibre Exports, Southeast Axemans Assn,
Yelds family, Sapphire Coast Tree Service & Tower Hire, Southeast Timber Association, Blue Ridge Hardwood P/L, McKinnell Logging P/L.

The Teams Relay provided a thrilling spectacle to end the day’s events and full credit must go to Graeme Love for a most even matching when drawing up the teams.
A red team comprising Fred Whiter, Allan Feilen, Matt Knight, Andrew Wiseman, Mike Yelds and Peter Knight, wore red shirts sponsored by Candelo Stock Feeds.
The Blue Team, Damien Hopkins, Cheyanne Girvan, Owen Hopkins, Colin Eaton, Graeme Love and Chris Eaton wore blue shirts sponsored by Bega Irrigation, Dairying & Mower Supply.
During this relay, with each team cutting three underhand and three standing blocks, the lead changed a number of times however the final competitors on each team severed their blocks with only a second or two separating them.
A big thank you is due to Peter Knight (handicapper) and to our stalwart Gordon Radford, his team and the Sapphire Coast Tree service for a great effort removing blocks and chips following each contest.
An outstanding competitor throughout the day’s programme was 17 year old Dewayne Grealy of Buchan Vic. Dewayne has been competing in boy’s events for the past nine years and has been selected to represent Victoria on that state’s Under 21 Wood chopping Team.
Dewayne’s win in the Norm Yelds Memorial Open event has taken him out of Novice status and will see him compete as an “Open” cutter in future.
Future events for January: Marlo Hotel Chop Saturday 19th, Candelo Show Sunday 20th, Bombala Australia Day (Wool and Wood) Saturday 26th.
