Recent fires have proven the vital role of RFS volunteers.
IN the wake of the State’s most extensive bushfires in a decade, Nationals Deputy Senate Leader, Fiona Nash is encouraging more people from regional New South Wales to consider signing up as a volunteer to their local Rural Fire Service.
“Sadly we have seen the loss of dozens of properties in the north of the State, but it would have been much worse without the amazing work of local RFS volunteers backed up by reinforcements from across New South Wales,” Senator Nash said.
“We should not only be thanking these heroes but boosting their numbers.
“They are always looking for new volunteers and being part the RFS can be immensely rewarding, particularly for young people.
“In addition to saving property and lives, volunteers learn many skills including leadership, discipline and team work.
“The RFS doesn’t just offer firefighting roles, it has a multitude of areas that require volunteers. Communications, catering, logistics, planning and aviation support are critical – there is a job for nearly everyone in the RFS.”

Senator Nash also praised the support farmers around the State were giving to their colleagues affected by bushfires.
“Bushfires don’t just destroy buildings, but also livestock, feed and fences, which is heartbreaking for farmers,” Senator Nash said.
