Locals ready for a rodeo!

THERE’S been quite a bit of lead up, and now we can all look forward to the thrills and spills of the Cooma Rodeo this weekend!

A number of Bombala district locals have been long time fans of the event, and both spectators and those taking part will be heading up for the action on February 9.

In fact, we even had some locals participating in the Bull Riding and Bull Fighting Schools in Cooma last weekend to prepare, with David Murphy being one of the driving forces behind the clinics.

Here Brad Scott and Warren Norton took an eager group of rodeo hopefuls, including Daniel Platts and Brett Thompson, through some skills and techniques to reduce their risk during competition and enhance their success.

All agreed that the schools were most informative and worthwhile, and there is no doubt that the participants came out better prepared for the rodeo this weekend.

After all, both Brad and Wayne have both been the Australian Champions of their sports several times over!

Thanks goes to the rodeo committee, and sponsors Jemena, Bellevarde Construction and the Royal Hotel who supported the schools, which will now further enhance the Cooma Rodeo.

And it’s bound to be a big weekend! Events to watch will include Bareback, Breakaway Roping, Bull Riding, Rope and Tie, Saddlebronc, Steer Undecorating, Steer Wrestling and Team Roping, with more details on each of these events available at the Cooma Rodeo website. (Entries closed last week).

And that’s just on the Saturday! On Sunday there will be the Mitative Divisional Barrel Race as well, which boasts a series of categories for all to enjoy from the juniors right through to the open. (Entries taken on the day).

So what are you waiting for? Make sure you’re a part of the Cooma Rodeo and all of the action both this Saturday and Sunday, February 9 and 10 at the showgrounds.
