THE Bombala Rotary Club met at the Rotary BBQ area on the banks of the beautiful Bombala River last Saturday to begin a progressive dinner for Valentine’s Day and to raise funds to assist Blaze Aid after the devastating January fires near Cooma.
After champagne and nibbles, club members and partners moved onto three houses - Lesley Smith’s, Fiona and Peter Crawford’s and Philip and Jayne
Steel’s - for an interesting array of main courses and stimulating conversation.
They then regrouped at Jim and Bronwen Longden’s home for an amazing variety of sweets and coffee on the outside deck.
The weather was perfect for the evening and all proceeds were added to the disbursement already organised to take to the next fundraising event.
On Tuesday, February 12, a combined dinner was held at Nimmitabel Bowling Club to also raise money for Blaze Aid. Bombala travelled by bus to Nimmitabel for dinner, where raffles and fines added to the Blaze Aid funds.
Approximately $800 was donated to this very necessary operation.
Bombala Rotary is very grateful to the many firefighters who contained the enormous fire and to the Blaze Aid workforce which is helping property owners get their land operational again.
