OUR local primary school students from across the area competed in a variety of events as part of the Bombala and District PSSA Athletics Carnival last Thursday and Friday.
With perfect sunshine being enjoyed both days, Thursday saw the high jump, long jump and shot put events concluded, while Friday was devoted to all track events and discus.
In very exciting news, several records were broken on the day, including - Jaidyn Clear (Delegate) 8 year boys, record last set in 1996; Hannah Feilen (Bombala PS) 9 year girls, record last set in 1998; Hannah Feilen (Bombala PS) Junior Girls 800 metres, record last set in 1993; Dakota Miles (Bombala PS) Junior Girls Discus, record last set in 2006; Katie Farrell (St Josephs) Senior Girls Discus, record last set in 2009.
Meanwhile the infants students, at the conclusion of their age races, enjoyed a circuit of fun activities in mixed school groups at the primary school.
Athletics Carnival Age Champions were – Junior Boy, Paddy Brownlie; Junior Girl, Hannah Feilen; 11 Year Boy, Brady Jones; 11 Year Girl, Karter Hampshire; Senior Boy, Blake Brownlie; Senior Girl, Jessica Feilen.
The Overall Champion School was Bombala Public, while Delegate won the handicap.
A very large squad of local district students will now compete at the Snowy Mountains PSSA Carnival in Cooma. Good luck everyone!
Thanks goes to all of those who worked so hard for the success of the carnival, and the students themselves for their excellent behaviour and competitive spirit.
