After four anxious months, Captain Jack Sparrow has finally returned to owner Catherine Phillips.
The three-year-old cat disappeared earlier this year, but Ms Phillips always believed he was still alive.
“There are industrial storage units not too far from us – and I’ve always thought he was trapped in that,” Ms Phillips said.
On Monday, Ms Phillips was putting her cockatoo to bed when she heard a ‘meow’ and thought it was her other cat Dennis. But it was Captain Jack Sparrow.
“I went around the corner and looked out on the pergola and I couldn’t believe my eyes.
“He’s so thin. He was a fat, spoilt cat. He’s a quarter of the size he was.”
Ms Phillips was overjoyed to see him, but Captain Jack Sparrow didn’t return home pain-free.
“He’d caught his collar under his right paw and it was cutting in up to his shoulder blade.,” she said.
“We took him to Dr Rob Page at Eureka Veterinary Clinic. He said he hadn’t eaten in weeks and weeks.
Ms Phillips said there were theories among her family about what happened to Captain Jack. Her partner wishes the cat could talk.
But for Ms Phillips, all she cares about is that he’s home now.
“He’s back. It’s my miracle, and I’m a realistic sort of person.”
