A VERY serious case of fun and learning was experienced last week throughout the district as Fire & Rescue NSW visited the Bombala and Delegate Preschools, as well as Wendy and Julie’s Day Care.
Fire personnel spent time with the children delivering a Pre Education Program, which proved both informative and exciting for the youngsters.
“The Bombala Fire Station would like to thank all our local preschool centres for participating in the Fire & Rescue NSW Pre Ed program. We believe our recent visits to these centres were a great success,” Fire & Rescue NSW’s Malcolm Lavender said.
The fire safety awareness program delivered last week was structured specifically to the cognitive ability of children of a preschool age.
The littlies actively participated in activities involving ‘knowing a firefighter’, ‘crawl low in smoke’, ‘stop drop, cover and roll’ and carrying out a fire evacuation.
Fire & Rescue NSW's purpose is to enhance community safety, quality of life and confidence by minimising the impact of hazards and emergency incidents on the people, environment and economy of the state.
“It was very pleasing to see that all the centres are doing a wonderful job educating the children in fire awareness and fire evacuation procedures,” Mr Lavender said.
Acting Station Captain, Neil Hennessy would like to direct all parents to website www.fire.nsw.gov.au where families will find many valuable resources, including home evacuation plans and interactive games for children.
The Bombala Fire Station looks forward to promoting the Fire & Rescue NSW Fire Education program in coming weeks throughout our primary schools, with this program designed specifically for stage 1 primary school children.
