A year of competitive bowls and social events

Bombala RSL Women’s Bowls

The Annual General Meeting was held Tuesday, June 5 with a good attendance.

The main office bearers elected for the coming year are as follows:

Glad Hurley, President; Jenny Brownlie, Secretary; and Moira Tindale, Treasurer.

These ladies all do a wonderful job to keep our small club going and their work is appreciated by all members. All other positions were filled.

Later in the year Bombala RSL Women’s Bowling Club will celebrate fifty years.

No bowls were played due to the cold and wet weather.

Presidents Report

June 2012

The past twelve months have been a busy time for our ladies with lots of competitive bowling and great social days.

Over this time we have attended the “Unfurling of the Flag” at Merimbula, Delegate’s Day at Bermagui and the 50th Birthday celebrations of the B.I.D.W.B.A. group at Merimbula in July.

We have also attended Mallacoota and Nimmitabel Friendship days and did our best to support many other clubs’ social/fundraising events. The Delegates travelled to Eden for six (bi-monthly) B.I.D.W.B.A. meetings.

Bombala’s functions included a Mini Carnival in September with local bowling ladies and men enjoying a fun game.

Our Charity Day saw a large gathering have a wonderful social day that resulted in $1190.00 being forwarded to Camp Quality. A wonderful result for a very worthy cause.

President’s Day in October was well represented by the other clubs and also President Margaret Hill and her ladies from the B.I.D.W.B.A. group. A lovely day was had by all who attended.

My thanks go to all the ladies for the flowers, donations of food, spiders and raffles – these all help to make our special days a great success.

Thank you to Ada Campbell for the flowers she provided on our club’s behalf, and took to the RSL Club during inclement weather on Anzac Day – and also thanks to all the ladies who assisted with catering for the Men’s Pennants.

Bombala ladies took part in the inter-town competitions and were declared runners-up – our congratulations to the winners, Candelo. Some very good bowling was displayed during this competition – all played in great sporting spirit.

For the second year some of the Bombala men and ladies played in the Monaro Shield on Sunday afternoons and Bombala was recently presented with the winners shield and each player was given a ‘pin’ to acknowledge their participation. Well done to all players!

On the social side the Winter Luncheon at Priscilla’s in June and the Christmas Luncheon at Jono’s in December all proved to be relaxing, fun days with lots of good food, chatter and laughter. The Christmas Luncheon is a great way to wind-down after a busy year.

On a sadder note, Ada Campbell, Betty Lomas and I attended the funeral on May 23 of Mrs Betty Carroll, who passed away on May 17, 2012 at age 88 years. The tributes in St Paul’s Anglican Church, Bega were a testimony to a gracious lady who was an inspiration to us all.

My thanks to all our members for their support and hard work throughout the past 12 months.

Keep up the good bowling.

G Hurley

President 2011/2012
