Footy Auction returns to the tune of $9,000

BOMBALA’S beloved Footy Auction returned with a bang last Saturday night, raising an incredible figure of around $9,000 for both our junior and senior football clubs.

There was great excitement leading up to the event based on the popular Footy Auctions of years ago, and while a relatively small crowd gathered at the RSL Club, there was great enthusiasm shown.

Local businesses and individuals alike had been extremely generous in their support of the footy clubs, and a great line up of donated items and vouchers went up for sale.

And there were three expert auctioneers wielding the hammer, with the entertaining Nigel Spoljaric, Stewart Lee and Toddy Haebich making the night their own with loads of fun and laughter.

From second hand art, books, furniture and bric a brac, right through to the big ticket items such as machinery hire, ram services, firewood and a load of gravel, the auction proved an extremely varied and hotly contested one.

Of course being a Footy Auction there was plenty of sporting memorabilia thrown in as well, and the crowd was well aware of the great cause it was supporting.

That was no doubt why the auction itself managed to raise around $8,000 from sales, with cash donations pushing the total over the $9,000 mark.

This is of course a fantastic success for the first Footy Auction back after several years, and both the junior and senior footy clubs were thrilled with the response from the community.

All who attended had extremely high praise for the night, which everyone agreed was immensely entertaining and echoed the fun of the Footy Auctions of years ago.

That’s why we can now look forward to the night being firmly back on the local calendar as an annual event, with the football clubs very keen to continue in 2013 and beyond.

The June long weekend has already been earmarked as a possible date, but for now the clubs would like to express their sincere appreciation to all of those who so generously donated to the auction, those who came along and supported it, the brilliant auctioneers, and those who helped with the organisation.

The proceeds all go towards keeping both our junior and senior local football players on the field, and it’s wonderful to see the Footy Auction back in business.
