AS MOST of our readers would be aware, Local Government Elections will be held on Saturday, September 8 this year and we will be electing seven Councillors to serve Bombala Council for a four year term.
Nominations for candidates opened on July 30, and close today, August 8, but at the time of our deadlines, there were just five candidates nominated for Bombala.
It seems that many of our prospective candidates must be leaving their nominations until the last minute, because as of midday yesterday, the Electoral Commission still only had five names registered.
And in exciting news, three of these are new possibilities for Bombala Council, with Alan Gillespie- Jones and Chris Philbrick of Bombala, as well as Bill Bateman of Delegate, having nominated.
Existing Councillors, Brad Yelds and Diane Hampshire had also finalised their nominations. It is expected that the majority of our existing Bombala Councillors will have nominated by the time the opportunity closes at 12noon today, and the Bombala Times will print the final list of candidates in next week’s issue.
We will also speak with each of these candidates in coming weeks to provide information on who our candidates are, and what they hope to achieve for our district through the Bombala Council.
For those who can’t wait until next week, candidate names are published live on the NSW Electoral Commission website as their nominations are accepted. To view visit http://votensw.info/candidates
