ON Saturday, October 19 Mervyn Rodwell of Bombala and Ailsa Mustard of Cobargo turned 80.
The pair were the first twins born at the Delegate Hospital on Thursday, October 19, 1933 to Herbert and Mabel Rodwell, with Mervyn weighing 5.5lb and Ailsa weighing just 3lb!
Celebrations were held at the Bombala RSL Club Auditorium on Saturday, October 19 from 10.30am, with a gathering of 130 family and friends of the twins enjoying a lovely meal catered by Jono and staff.
Guests attended from as far as Perth, Brisbane, Melbourne, Cobar, Goulburn, Cooma, Queanbeyan, Canberra, Tarago, Bungendore, Bairnsdale, Cann River, Delegate, Bendoc, Cathcart, Eden, Pambula, Candelo, Cobargo, Moruya and of course the local area.
Many heartfelt speeches were made, and the two beautifully baked and decorated cakes by the Bombala Bakery were cut and shared amongst the delighted guests.
After leaving the club family and friends then gathered at Rifle Range Road to continue celebrations with a relaxed barbecue dinner catered for by sons Mark, Peter and their families.
Music was provided by Jay Podger from Cooma, with a great time had by all dancing and singing the night away!
Sunday morning saw everyone join together again at Rifle Range Road for breakfast and another get together before making their way home, with a fun and memorable weekend had by all.
Celebrations continued at Cobargo on Sunday, October 27 with a small but cheerful gathering at the Cobargo Hotel to wish both Ailsa and Mervyn a very happy 80th birthday.
