BOMBALA could have its own Chamber of Commerce within months.
Plans are underway to assess whether there is sufficient interest in the proposal which would raise the profile of businesses in the town, forge improved links with council and lobby governments for a better deal for the business sector.
A meeting will be held at Bombala’s council chambers on March 20 at 6pm to which all businesses and members of the community are invited.
The town’s development association has not been active for some years ago and the business community has been without a collective voice.
Council’s economic development officer Karen Cash said there were a number of new businesses in Bombala and she noted a “new enthusiasm” in town.
“Council would love to see the establishment of a Chamber of Commerce,” Ms Cash said.
“Such an organisation would allow for improved communications between council and business
“It would also help with the development and assistance of programs to improve the economic vibrancy of the area and the strengthening of networks among our local business owners.
“A vibrant retail area is important to the long term sustainability of our local area and council welcomes any initiatives that support this goal,” she said.
