ANYONE who passes by the Bombala High School of a Wednesday may think there is something serious going on, with one or two fire tankers and a group of people dressed in vibrant yellow protective clothing working hard with fire hoses and fittings.
Well there is something happening – the latest RFS Cadet Program!
This year, 19 Year 9 students are being lead through the program by Monaro RFS volunteer, Vern Dunning and Craigie Brigade Fire Captain, John Reed.
The students have enthusiastically adorned themselves in the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and are learning about the intricacies of fire, the different fittings and attachments, and the “tricks” to rolling out (and back up) the various fire hoses.
This is the fourth year the program has run at Bombala High with interest and enthusiasm for it growing each year.
The program is not designed to recruit new volunteers, however new faces are always welcome, and a number of our current and former students are involved in helping to protect and serve our local community through the various RFS brigades.
Throughout the program the students will continue to build on their skills and teamwork as well as visiting the different emergency service providers and local fire control centre.
More photos are on display in the foyer of the High School.
