Marque, in Sydney's Surry Hills, run by Mark Best was the best placed Australian on Elite Traveller magazine's annual best of the best list, at number 35.
It was followed by Ben Shewry's popular Ripponlea dining spot in Melbourne, Attica, which was named 56th best restaurant in the world.
It was a debut for Attica, which has collected rave reviews for its eight-course tasting menus and recently won restaurant of the year in The Age's Good Food Guide awards.
Shannon Bennett's Vue de Monde was the second Melbourne mention, at number 58.
Two other Sydney restaurants were also included with Tetsuya ranked at number 60 and Quay at 88.
Chicago establishment Alinea took the top spot for the third year in a row.
Melbourne may be home to a third world-class restaurant on next year's list.
British celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal's establishment The Fat Duck was named third best this year. The 20 year-old restaurant will close its Berkshire location in December for renovations and re-open at Crown Casino, Melbourne for six months. The restaurant will be re-badged Dinner by Heston Blumenthal and will be the famously experiential chef's only restaurant outside the United Kingdom.
The list was complied by the magazine's wealthy readers on their top picks.
