The three-day event took place at Deddick Springs and even the heavy rain didn’t turn competitors away.
Competitors from far and wide took part in this year’s competition and Campdraft secretary Laurie Reed said the Campdraft was one of the best competitions to date.
“This year we had about a thousand entries and that was up 200 from last year,” Mr Reed said.
“No one seemed to worry about the rain, not one horse slipped over the whole weekend.”
Mr Reid said that the stand out events on the day were the Buff Rogers Memorial Prize and the Pat Ventry Memorial Open that attracted a great group of riders.
Mr Reid has been involved in the Campdraft since its inception 39 year ago and enjoys every aspect of the competition from setting up to droving the cattle home again.
Each year organisers muster cattle for the competition from the Gelantipy and Wulgulmerang area down for the Campdraft.
“We spend the best part of a week rounding up the cattle for the event and bringing them down to Deddick Springs,” he said.
“And now the competition is over we will spend the next three days driving them home again.
“It’s something I look forward to, like a working holiday I guess.”
The Cabanandra Campdraft Committee would like to thank all those who helped run the draft and the drovers who gave the best part of two weeks of their time to the event.
