Jesse William Blewitt was arrested in Bombala on Sunday night after police from Bombala, Cooma and Jindabyne executed a search warrant on his premises.
Police found a number of items they allege were stolen on Saturday night from a vehicle owned by an 84-year-old man and parked in Maybe Street.
The items included two rifles, spear fishing gear, a slingshot, compound bow and quiver of arrows, binoculars and power tools.
Blewitt was charged with eight offences including unlawful possession of the firearms and ammunition and possession of a prohibited weapon.
Blewitt was refused bail in Bombala and appeared in Queanbeyan Local Court on Monday.
Appearing in court, Blewitt maintained that the bow, arrows, spear fishing gear and slingshot were his.
He is yet to enter pleas to the firearms charges but he does not hold a firearms licence.
The man was already on bail for armed with intent to commit an indictable offence.
Magistrate Chris Bone said the firearms charges were “serious” and that he could not be satisfied that the public would be protected if he granted bail.
“He has a history of violence, and he’s currently on bail for being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence,” the magistrate said.
“It is a matter of concern that he is alleged to be in possession of stolen firearms; that’s a matter that concerns me greatly.”
The matter was adjourned. Blewitt will appear in Cooma Local Court on September 16.
