Mrs Smith was selected to the position by Bombala Shire Council because of her wealth of experience in the community.
She has lived in the region for more the 25 years and before retiring was the deputy principal of Bombala High School.
Throughout this time she has been involved in many aspects of the community including foster care, Rotary, Bombala Brownies and Guides, Bombala Health Services, Bombala Pony Club and Bombala Volleyball Club.
“I have had a long history of being involved in various groups in the community,” Mrs Lesley said.
“I was the deputy principal at the high school for many years, have been involved with the business centre and tourism and I think I will represent the community well.
“At the moment I know very little about my role but I’m eager to begin work.”
Mayor Bob Stewart said he was happy with council’s decision to appoint Mrs Smith to the
committee because she has been a positive member in many community groups throughout the Bombala region.
“She has been involved in many groups throughout the years, she was even one of the first women to join Rotary,” Cr Stewart said.
“She’s the type of person who is straight down the line and that’s what is needed for this committee.”
Cr Stewart said the role of the Boco Rock Community Fund would be an advisory body to council on how the funds would be best spent.
“The committee will advise council on how the money should be spent but eventually the final decision will come down to council,” Cr Stewart said.
“I believe there is around $60,000 to $70,000 to be spent within the community so they have their work cut out for them.
“I personally would like to see a push for the upgrade of park facilities in Bombala and Delegate but that’s just me, I’m sure everyone has something they would like to see improve.”
