The little boy who died after a sand dune collapsed on him on a Far South Coast beach has been named as Byron Gordon.
The Wyndham Public School student was digging on the remote Terrace Beach, between Pambula and Eden, with his four-year-old brother when a sand dune collapsed, trapping him.
The younger boy ran to his mother, and she alerted other beach-goers, who tried to help get the child out.
Paramedics treated Byron at the scene but the 10-year-old died at Merimbula Airport, before he could be airlifted to Canberra Hospital on Monday.
