Jesse William Blewitt appeared in Cooma Local Court on September 16 charged with being armed with the intent to commit an indictable offence and assaulting a police officer.
A court spokeswoman said Blewitt was sentenced to three months jail on both matters.
He will serve the terms concurrently.
Officers from the Monaro Local Area Command located a number of firearms which had been reported stolen from the Bombala area on Sunday, August 31.
Earlier that day an 84-year-old man contacted police reporting that .22 and a .222 calibre rifles, a drill, and a pair of binoculars had been stolen from his car the previous night.
A search warrant was executed on a Maybe Street residence.
The items were located and seized and Blewitt was arrested.
He was refused bail in Queanbeyan Local Court to appear in Cooma Local Court.
Magistrate Chris Bone said he had a history of violence and had been on bail for being armed with intent when the most recent offences occurred.
He said the firearms charges were serious.
