Back to Zero won the $12,000 Dongwha Timbers Bombala Cup in 2011 and again last year when it beat 2010 winner Sebony.

Trainer Barbara Joseph told the Bombala Times yesterday she hopes apprentice Carly Frater will be given a doctor’s clearance to ride Back to Zero in the Cup.

“We’ll know for sure after she sees the doctor next week,” Mrs Joseph said.

Frater suffered a heavy fall from Jockali in Wagga on August 22.

She sustained a broken collarbone and a gash to her forehead and required surgery in Sydney.

But she remained in good spirits and was determined to be back in the saddle to ride for JJR as soon as she received clearance.

Back To Zero – an eight-year-old bay gelding born by Reset out of Biscara – has had eight wins from 52 starts, with prize money totalling $130,515.

Bombala and District Jockey Club secretary Anne Tier said the annual Bombala Cup race day – which attracts more than 600 people – was shaping up to be a great day.

Ms Tier said that apart from the $12,000 up for grabs in the Cup,  other races on the day would attract prize money of $7000 each.

Nominations for the main race open on the Monday before race day.

Trainers have until the Thursday morning to accept nominations.

Last year only six horses started, but there is a capacity for 10 starters.

Entry into the marquee costs $35, which also includes a seat and race book.

Seafood platters, which must be pre-booked, are also available at $70.

Fashions in the field will be a popular feature again this year, there will be entertainment for the children and locals schools will provide a barbecue.
