President Colin Ryan reports that the enthusiasm and commitment already expressed by the committee and players is the strongest he’s seen in years, particularly this early out from the season.
This was made clear at the Bombala Rugby League AGM last Monday night with numbers to the meeting the highest seen in years and with a large percentage being the players themselves.
Veteran player and dedicated committee person, Terry Perkins attended the Group 16 AGM in Bega on behalf of the Bombala club.
With motions put forward by other clubs to only allow clubs to be considered if they could field three or more grades, Terry had to advocate strongly for the club to ensure it would be accepted.
Upon being accepted Terry reported various other clubs showing their delight to have Bombala back in the comp, saying Bombala’s passion has always made it an admirable club.
It has been seven years since Bombala has been part of the Group 16 Grand Final. In 2007 the squad, led by imported coach Andrew Le`Brenton, almost went the full distance to take out the comp, fielding a large squad of talented home grown players.
Only last year did Bombala see 13 of its very own talented ladies make up most of the numbers in the premiership winning League Tag team for Group 16.
Not only were most of the ladies from Bombala, but the ladies league tag Best and Fairest of Group 16 was awarded to our very own Maree Coates (nee Ingram).
It has been long known that our area has supplied some fantastic football talent over the years, but sad to see other regions taking credit for these players in recent years due to dwindling numbers.
This recent surge in young talent coming through and return of some influential players to the region has sent morale high amongst the players, and they are said to be enthusiastic and determined to make our region well represented in 2015 and are excited to put Bombala back on the Group 16 map.
The re-formation of the Bombala Football Club will provide many benefits to the local community, from social cohesion to positive self-identity throughout the district.
However the success of the Club in the 2015 season and beyond, relies on the support of the community through sponsorship and volunteer efforts. If you as an individual or as a business are interested in supporting the Club in either of these areas there will be plenty of opportunities to do so.
The Football Club is seeking Major and Minor Sponsors for the upcoming season, with a number of sponsorship packages, of various levels available.
Anyone wishing to seek further information about the benefits of this type of sponsorship please contact Colin Ryan on 0427 584 246 or Terry Perkins on 6458 3499.
Outside of these packages, there will also be the opportunity to assist the club financially, through smaller sponsorship arrangements. More details on this will be available in the coming weeks.
