TWO more launches of ‘The Men from Snowy River’ book and information days in Cooma and Goulburn have been concluded. Both went off without a hitch, with the book being received well.
Peter Cochran who launched the book in Cooma was fulsome in his praise, in fact he purchased an extra book to give to the Governor General Sir Peter Cosgrove at the Adaminaby Races.
Peter also said he would like to see the Men from Snowy River book in all district schools, and offered to contact someone to sponsor such a project.
A popular part of proceedings was the performance by children from the local choir, who with choirmasters Penny and John Judge travelled to Cooma for the occasion.
It was then on to Goulburn for the launch the next day, which was carried out by Dr Mike Kelly who is the chair of the District SRM Re-enactment Committee.
Also present at the Goulburn Soldiers Club was guest speaker, Rear Admiral Raydon Gates. Both speakers were most impressive, and it was a shame that Goulburn, the largest centre on the tour, had the smallest crowd.
However some useful contacts were made including the headmistress of Goulburn East Primary School who is very keen to take part in the Cooee Choir project. The local choir was not able to be present at Goulburn, so a video of their performance was shown.
There were only three of us present at Goulburn and after being fortified by a very nice afternoon tea, we set forth on the long journey home.
We now look forward to the Queanbeyan launch by Dr Brendon Nelson, which promises to be very well attended with Chris Pritzler the enthusiastic Manager of the RSL Sub-Branch making sure that everything runs to clockwork. He even travelled to Cooma to check out the launch there.
Dr Mike Kelly offered to pass on information to the Press Gallery so the book and the planned re-enactment of the march should receive the publicity which is needed to get the word out.
