As has become tradition, the shearing competition will be the backbone of the day, incorporating the NSW Strong Wool Championship as well as the inaugural Peter Kimber Memorial Trophy.
Another big highlight of the day will be the wood chopping program, which will include underhand, standing block and double saw categories, with an exciting five event program set to roll out.
Also back by popular demand, the Mini Triathlon will again see plenty of action unfolding early on in the day at the local swimming pool and around the river precinct.
If that’s not enough exercise for you, there’ll also be an Oz Tag competition run throughout the day on the showground oval, or you can try something different and have a go at Laser Tag.
The presentation of Citizens and Event of the Year awards will form the official part of the day, and our Australia Day Address will again come from a very special guest.
This will be our 2015 Australia Day Ambassador and CEO of the Wayside Chapel, Reverend Graham Long, who we will provide a biography on in next week’s paper.
Meanwhile children will be delighted with some old fashioned games and novelties, as well as some more crafty pursuits, and can once again look forward to having their faces painted.
And don’t forget the ever popular photography competition, which will again illustrate the ‘spirit of the bush’ through the eyes of our local photographers. (For more information please call Sally-Ann on 6458 3464).
It will be accompanied this year by a painting competition run by the Bristle Brush Arts group, encouraging local artists to present a rural subject and/or landscape. (For more information call Carol Badewitz on 6458 3092).
And of course there’ll be various displays, stalls and refreshments on hand to round out a full day of celebrations.
Sound like a big Australia Day event? Well make sure you’re at the Bombala Exhibition Ground on January 24 and be a part of it!
We’ll have all of the details in next week’s Bombala Times.
(Events such as this require a large amount of organisation, with those who are interested in lending a hand in any way urged to contact Colin Green on 6458 3555 as soon as possible).
