The outcome of the Fit for the Future process will dictate the future of Bombala Council, and all residents are urged to have their input into one of the most important decisions to affect Council since the merger of Bibbenluke and Bombala shires in the 1970s.
The State Government released its ‘Fit for the Future’ program in late 2014 following the Independent Panel Review entitled “Revitalising Local Government”. This Review recommended that Bombala Council consider merging with Cooma Monaro and Snowy River Shire Councils or alternatively look at being a stand-alone rural council.
Bombala Council is undertaking a business case with Cooma Monaro and Snowy River Shire Councils, and will also be preparing a stand-alone business case.
Council’s preferred position at this stage, in the absence of further information, is to remain a stand-alone council.
