OUR beloved Bombala Show is always a success, but there was something about last Saturday’s event that had many describing the 137th Show as one of the more enjoyable.

Crowd numbers were solid, with a big stream of locals and visitors swarming in the gates to enjoy the day, including some from Sydney, Perth and even Canada and the US!
There were visitors who timed their trip to the area especially for the show, and those who simply came upon it while travelling through, but all commented on how impressed they were with the great event our small town presented.
In fact, many favourable comparisons were made between the local show and bigger shows both within the region and further afield.
Of course this was chiefly down to the big line up of attractions on offer, with a huge array of entertainment and exhibits being enjoyed on a perfect autumn day.
This of course included the ring events, with the stewards confirming that horse entries were comparable to last year and that very positive feedback was heard for the section.
Likewise there was a very healthy showing in the sheep and poultry sections, resulting in a wonderful display of animals and birds for showgoers to admire, while the small selection of cattle were also impressive specimens.
Within the pavilion the wool was impressive and our creative community did itself proud with art and craft items, needlework, and of course the cooking, while the schoolwork being exhibited was highly praised.
The fruit, vegetable and condiment sections obviously benefitted from a good season, and our gardeners did themselves proud in the flowers, from the champion specimens right through to the floral arrangements.
The photography section again proved popular with entrants of all ages, while the papercraft, farm produce and even the novelty vegetable animals all added to the wonderful display.
Back outside the yard dog trials were once again of great interest to the crowd right throughout the day, as was the impressive woodchopping, while a series of trade and market stalls also thrived.
Amusement rides are always popular, with everything from the teacups to the Cha Cha proving a hit with the young and young at heart, as did traditional favourite, Zamboni the magician.
When it came to entertainment showgoers were spoilt for choice in fact, with a pet show, guess the weight competition, jumping castles, the quick shear and the dog high jumps all on offer, while the reptile display was a thrill for many.
Parents and grandparents also loved the water balls, face painting and free clydesdale wagon rides which meant they didn't have to put their hands in their pockets the whole day long!
The 137th Bombala Show was formally opened by Citizen of the Year, Colin Green, while Bombala Exhibition Society President, Coleen McCoy also shared a few words and thanked all involved.
Although a late cool breeze picked up, it failed to blow showgoers home until the refreshments, entertainment and showjumps finally concluded in the evening.
“It was a great day all round, and we have had very positive feedback from the public and trade stall holders,” the Bombala Exhibition Society’s secretary, Kim Oliver said.
“The combination of an enthusiastic team of volunteer committee members, volunteers on the day, and of course our greatly valued sponsors makes for a successful show day. We thank everyone who supported us throughout the year and on the day.”
