The 53-year-old has landed a job in the fast lane, thanks to a federal government program that helps businesses employ older people.
Mr Fredericks has been employed under the Restart program, which offers eligible businesses up to $10,000 to hire a 50-plus job seeker and retain them for two years.
The program seeks to overcome the barriers older workers can face when re-entering the workforce.
Business owners Bill and Carole Martin, of Batemans Bay Indoor Karts, took advantage of the program, but Mrs Martin said it was the person, rather than the funding, which sealed the deal.
She is quick to sing Mr Fredericks praises, as well as the benefits of employing older people.
Mrs Martin said older people had more life experience and understood the real world.
“You don’t find many people over 50 who just know one job,” she said.
“It’s that multi-talented facet of older people that I like.
“They’re willing to give more than one thing a try.
“You don’t have to say ‘can you go and do this’ - they use their initiative.
“I don’t have to keep thinking ‘what else needs to be done’, Trevor just goes and does it.”
Mr Fredericks said he “wasn’t looking very hard” for a job, but jumped at the chance to apply for a position.
“I knew it was going to be good fun,” he said.
Restart aims to encourage businesses to take on new mature-aged employees, who often face barriers when re-entering the workforce.
Nationally the top industries hiring people under Restart are accommodation and food services, manufacturing, construction and retail.
