The weather was kind and the sun shone throughout day, blessing what was a milestone event for the area.
This year the Bombala and District Junior Rugby League Football Club welcomed 68 teams, with children travelling from Canberra, Cooma and along the coast to take part.
For the first time in the event’s rich 50 year history, organisers were also very pleased to welcome Girls League Tag which is sure to continue into the future.
All three junior league teams for the Bombala Blue Heelers put in great efforts, with improvement being noted in all teams each week.
The local players all enjoyed the day, particularly the Under 7s who are just feeling their way and starting to show it with plenty of smiles on the field.
They all deserve their two week break over Easter.
As with every big event there was an army of volunteers behind the scenes and the carnival would not have happen without the support of the local community, parents, grandparents, friends and supporters.
Plenty have been offering their assistance for many years which has contributed to making this carnival such a success.
The club would now like to say thank you and express its appreciation to the following people and clubs for their contribution - Neil Hennessy; Lions Club of Bombala; Bombala Senior Blue Heelers Committee; our Group 16 partner clubs; Tracey Power and Glen Bedingfield; referees and touch judges; Bombala Junior Blue Heelers Committee; parents, grandparents, friends and families; past players and their parents.
Also thanks to the committee. A great success to mark the 50th year anniversary. Whilst the committee is quite small these days everyone certainly worked above and beyond expectations.
Last but not least a big thank you to the players for the efforts made on the day. The sportsmanship shown was outstanding, with some players helping out other teams who were short on numbers or combining with other teams to make up teams just so that other players were able to take part in the day.
Overall Rugby League was the winner on Saturday, and all look forward to another great carnival in 2016!
