mcCr Secretary, Dale Coyte, visited hospital for the handover, and spoke to the team about the mcCr Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS).
The chair was designed and built to conform to the high standards of the hospital and is very practical.
It converts from chair on wheels that can be moved around the hospital, before easily folding out to a comfortable bed for use by patients family members during long hospital stays.
During her visit, Dale met with members of the MPS team and Bombala Council to discuss how the mcCr Financial Assistance Scheme could assist cancer patients in the Bombala and Delegate area.
She explained that in 2011, the mcCr introduced the concept as a pilot scheme to provide financial support to families affected by cancer. The program was endorsed in 2012 and FAS has continued, assisting almost 100 patients to date.
“We feel that by reducing financial pressure, covering costs for medical gaps, fuel for appointments, and paying household bills like electricity accounts, relieves the pressure on families,” said Dale.
“Accessing FAS is also very easy; we’ve cut the red-tape as this can also be stressful. People just need a referral from their oncologist, community nurse or GP; FAS is not means tested and is available to people who have been diagnosed or re-diagnosed with cancer within the last 12 months and live in the Cooma-Monaro, Bombala and Snowy River Shires,” explained Dale.
