This year’s annual Delegate Duck Race was a wonderful success yet again, with this year being the biggest in its seven years of fundraising. The weather was fabulous to us, the community was wonderfully supportive.
The day began with the usual Easter egg hunt for the kids, followed by some pizza making and the fun duck and spoon races.
The most exciting part for the kids was the Boat Race. A record 32 boats of all shapes and sizes and made by the children themselves sailed successfully down the Delegate River.
The winner was Cooper Kidd with his boat, ‘Delegate River Kidd’, while second went to Bella and Lola Tonnissen, and third place to Ellery Farran.
The Duck Race itself was run a little differently this year. There were 109 ducks in the race, with all selling out once again. Many got stuck in the weeds and reeds, some whirlpooled in the rapids for a while, but they eventually all crossed the finish line.
Congratulations went to Shelley Dunn whose duck came over the finish line first. Lana Jamieson came second and Mel Kidd came in third.
Platypus Pals would like to thank the community for their support again this year, this is what makes it a success.
A big thank you must go to the sponsors though, without their support it is hard to have such wonderful prizes. This year we would like to thank the following businesses - Delegate Cafe, Delegate General Store, Delegate Hotel, Lesley and Anthony Gilbert with their fabulous coffee van, Lou Lou’s, The Garden and Gadget Gallery, Champions Shoes, Bombala Pharmacy, Murphy’s Transport and Building Supplies, Bombala Bakery, Delegate Progress Association, Cooma Camping World, Monaro Native Tree Nursery, Forestry Corporation of NSW, Natalie Armstrong, Lavender House and Phoenix Cards.
We look forward to another fabulous Duck Race next year.
