THE former ERA representatives in council, Councillors Schwarz and Burnside, are right when they say the May 9 meeting in Batemans Bay was a council bashing exercise.

Many ratepayers from all walks of life told story after story of services failed, developments halted, requests ignored, community consultation disregarded and a general failure by council and councillors to communicate or take notice of the concerns of their community.
These were, for the most part, just ordinary ratepayers who took the opportunity to express their concerns and frustrations over the direction that council is heading in.
And there were lots and lots of them.
All the more to ignore, as evidenced by the letter to the editor (Bay Post/Moruya Examiner, May 20) from Councillors Schwarz and Burnside.
These councillors were elected on the ERA ticket because their principles aligned with those of the ERA, which campaigned for council reform and a fair shake for the ratepayer.
Now, these councillors have different principles that are more aligned with the views of the council hierarchy, that the council doesn’t need reform, just more money from the ratepayers.
It appears that Councillors Schwarz and Burnside are men of principle and if you don’t like that, well . . . they have other principles.
