Among the biggest - and tastiest! - were two events held last week to raise funds for Bombala’s Relay for Life coming up in November.
The first effort saw the ‘Bandicoot’s Long Haul’ team slicing, dicing and pureeing away for hours to create litres of delicious soup for their ‘Sip Some Soup for Cancer’ fundraiser.
The team had incredible support for their soup stall outside Lou Lou’s on Friday, with every last cup of soup, bread roll and dollop of sour cream being eagerly gobbled up.
Thanks to an accompanying wood raffle, and some very kind donations, the team was thrilled to raise a total of $1,060.95.
A huge thank you now goes out to all of those who supported the stall itself, as well as the Bombala Bakery for the discount on the rolls and donation of cups and lids, and Sarah Hart for donating the serviettes.
Thanks also to those very kind people who made soup to add to the spread - it seems the team could have sold cups of soup all afternoon without meeting demand!
And it was a similar success story for the ‘Walking on Empty’ team’s Texas Muffin Drive the following day.
Originally planning to take pre-orders and then sell additional muffins from their stall, the group had to stop taking orders at an incredible 700 muffins! This was a huge undertaking, especially considering the team had planned on baking a maximum of 500.
Four of the team members spent all day Friday baking in the high school food technology room, while five spent another few hours finishing off the cooking, and then icing and packaging the muffins on Saturday morning.
The team members likened the experience to competing in the MKR cooking show, with all six ovens baking at once, everyone getting in each other’s way, continuously watching the clock and running out of ingredients!
But of course, they were thrilled with the community support, and again teaming their Saturday stall with a wood raffle and taking some kind donations, ‘Walking On Empty’ managed to raise a wonderful $1558.30.
And this is just the start of what we can expect! The Relay for Life will see local teams fundraising right up until the event itself in November - so dig deep, people!
