Among them was the charity auction that was held at the Globe Hotel on July 10, raising an incredible $8,219 for the Cancer Council initiative.
The Globe was decked out in yellow and purple for the event, with a large and enthusiastic crowd dressing to fit the Relay for Life colour scheme.
A huge number of items were donated to the auction by our very generous local businesses, with everything from loads of gravel, mulch and wood going under the hammer alongside footy memorabilia, dressed lambs, the hire of machinery and tradespeople, and even portable loos and locally grown trees!
Beyond all the wonderful auction items, there was also a raffle with ten great prizes, again all kindly donated by local business houses.
A huge thank you must now go to all of those who contributed to the success of the charity night, including the community for coming along to support and enjoy the event, and of course those who so generously donated to the auction.
Special mention must also go to Alecia and Travis from the Globe Hotel for not only hosting the event, but arranging decorations, a live band and a pool competition, as well as kindly donating the takings from the bar on the evening.
Thanks also to auctioneer, Nigel Spoljaric, and Warren and Wendy Hampshire for their tireless work leading up to the event and on the night.
So what’s next? Heaps!
On the Relay for Life fundraising horizon we can see a Sweet Treat Street Stall at the next Delegate Market Day, a car wash, a country music and karaoke afternoon at the Bombala Golf Club and a second hand book drive at Lou Lou’s.
Ongoing there is also a series of wood raffles, a 100 Club every second Friday, and donation boxes and fundraising chocolates at various businesses around town.
If you’d like to get a little more pro-active about it there is a committee meeting to be held on August 13 from 1pm at the RSL Club, with absolutely everyone welcome to come and share any ideas, thoughts and suggestions.
There will also be a team meeting on Thursday, August 27 from 6.30pm for a 7pm start at the RSL Club where team captains and members are encouraged to come along and find out all they need to know to ensure the November 28 Relay is a really great event.
Invitation to all
The Relay for Life is a chance for the Bombala district community to recognise and celebrate local cancer survivors, patients and their carers, and to honour and remember loved ones lost to cancer. And we can do it all while raising money to save more lives!
The committee invites all cancer survivors, patients and carers to participate in an opening lap of honour on the big day of Saturday, November 28, with morning tea to follow.
The committee would like to see as many people as possible participate in this great charity event, whether they join a team, make their own or simply turn up and show their support to those taking part.
