Last year there were 2,136 overnight stays in the caravan park, and this year there were 2,719; an impressive increase of 583 nights.
These figures are of course warmly welcomed by the Bombala Council, which points out that most bookings are for couples rather than singles, meaning that more than 1000 extra people are staying in Bombala. And that’s just at the caravan park!
Council explains that there are a number of reasons behind the increase, the first being the employment of an onsite manager, which has greatly improved the experience of staying at the caravan park.
A small office is now being set up at the park to allow the onsite manager to perform his duties more professionally.
Council has also changed the way it promotes the caravan park, advertising it through Caravanning Australia magazine and the Turu website, while it is also on the Cartoscope map.
In an exciting step forward, the caravan park will also appear in a small television advertising campaign in the lead up to this year’s Bike Show.
Beyond this the caravan park now boasts three cabins, the latest of which is a family unit suitable for sleeping four. One of the other cabins is designed for singles or a couple, and the third features an additional pull out bed which allows it to sleep three.
Council reports that they get very good bookings for the cabins, but have also seen a large increase in bookings for unpowered sites. This reflects the large number of self contained mobile homes being used by travellers.
The Council has had extremely positive feedback from visitors using the caravan park, with guests praising everything from the park facilities and manager to its riverside location, which allows them to make the most of the nearby walking track.
“Guests have been amazed that they can see the platypus right here in town, and we are hearing great things about the friendliness of the community in general,” said Council’s Karen Cash.
“Pleasingly, visitors have also started using Bombala as their base for day trips throughout the region.”
