“Howitt Park was the my first starter in a race and he won, that was 40 years ago,” Ms Joseph said.
“Forty years later and Joseph Jones Racing has 65 horses they are training, with four racing on Saturday,” she said.
Girl’s Own is running in Race 1 the Bombala Cup; Our Cracker is running in Race 2 Benchmark 45 Handicap over 1100 metres; Blow the Kitty is racing in Race 6 Maiden Plate 1200 metres and Smiling at Shadows is running in Race 4 Class 1 and Maiden Plate over 1700 metres.
“Carla Frater is riding most of my horses at Bombala and they are all going to be good each way bets,” Ms Joseph said.
Barbara Joseph was granted her licence in 1975 and in July 2010 Barbara formed a training partnership with her elder son Paul Jones and Joseph and Jones Racing started operations.
Joseph and Jones Racing is sponsoring Saturday’s Fashion on the Field at Bombala.
There is a total of $500 prize money on offer for ladies, gentlemen, couples and junior male and female race goers.
Treasurer of Bombala Jockey Club Ed Baines said that horse races were a part of Australian history and traditions with country meetings still retaining the informality and more relaxed atmosphere missing in the bigger arenas.
“The racing industry has acknowledged how important it is to have small community clubs survive, as the upper levels are rapidly affected if the base is weakened, as did happen in the last two decades,” Mr Baines said.
“Our prize money is substantially subsidised by Racing NSW - we are able to have races the value of which exceed that offered by some well known British courses for their secondary meetings.
“Without our sponsors, all of whom are long term contributors and the work undertaken by volunteers we would be unable to continue to operate on the same basis, and we are fortunate to enjoy such mutually positive relationships,” he said.
There will be entertainment for the children with face painting and a jumping castle. The bus is running from the Delegate Hotel at noon and the Bombala RSL from noon and every half an hour thereafter.
