Railway cheer

THERE’S nothing like great weather and even better live music to bring out a crowd, and the first Mini Market at the railway was blessed with both on Saturday!

The Friends of the Bombala Railway were delighted when a good day dawned for the inaugural event, which saw a series of market stalls, a barbecue and other refreshments all on offer from the platform of the station buildings.

The biggest drawcard, however, was the live band, with the Hodakery Connection bringing in the people and keeping everyone entertained as the morning rolled on.

There was also a lavender oil distillation to enjoy, while both locals and visitors alike wandered through the open railway buildings to soak up a little history.

The Friends of the Bombala Railway were very pleased with the Mini Market, which allowed them to raise around $220 to go towards their ongoing efforts to improve the Railway Land.

In particular, the money will go towards the refurbishment of the old toilet block at the railway.

Meanwhile, a small working bee at the completion of the Mini Market also saw the base of the turntable painted.

The group offers its sincere thanks to the community for its support of the Mini Market, and also for their monthly barbecue at the Bombala Markets.

Thanks goes to the businesses sponsoring and otherwise supporting the Friends of the Bombala Railway, including the Bombala Bakery, Foodworks, Farmgate Gourmet Meats, the Imperial Hotel, Palarang Meats and the Bombala Council.

Stay tuned to see what the group has up their sleeve for the Bombala Railway next…
