The event staged at Darling Harbour also placed Mollymook Beach Waterfront highly, awarding a third silver medal for hosted accommodation in six years.
Chair of South Coast Regional Tourism Catherine Shields is confident tourism will expand beyond the $2 billion it injects into the South Coast economy each year.
She has previously encouraged more players in the industry to look at packaging “a range of experiences for visitors so they don’t just go to the beach”.
Operators of Mollymook Beach Waterfront Ken and June Banks crossed their fingers for an unprecedented fourth gold but the silver is more than a consolation - it means they’ve either won or come second in their category for each of the past six years.
They won gold at state level in 2011, 2012 and 2014 and their other silvers in 2010 and 2013.
Waterfront’s daily occupancy in the past year included 60 per cent repeat clientele, and Ken and June reckon the secret is as much about paying attention to a fond goodbye as it is to do with welcoming their guests.
Mollymook Golf Club, Tallwood Restaurant and the Mollymook Beach Hut cafe provided testimonies to support Waterfront’s submission to the awards.
