That’s all folks! Thanks very much to everyone for being part of our rolling coverage from the Bega Show today. It’s been fantastic to demonstrate our new way of working with all the various visitors to our stall in the pavilion, as well as showing off some new live video skills (with some improvement needed?!)
We hope you enjoyed this as much as we did.
Stay tuned for plenty more photos from the weekend and additional coverage to come.
Ben and Alasdair.

The Mudd Monsters obstacle course has proved extremely popular in its debut at the Bega Show. Looks like a lot of fun!

No surprises here, but the names of Peter and Ray Ubrihien appear on nearly every prize ticket in the poultry exhibit!
Wayne Galli has picked up quite a few as well and well done to all the winners.
Peter is the third generation of Ubrihien to be part of the Bega Show Society.
And again no surprises, both his father and grandfather were poultry exhibitors.
“That was our life; before and after school helping dad with the chooks.
“It’s a good hobby. I’ve met good people.”
Peter said when his dad “gave the game away” he and brother Ray divided the chooks between them, each choosing different breeds in the process.
“[Exhibiting] is a good family thing, there’s not too much competition between us.”
Peter was also pleased to see a younger generation coming through interesting in breeding and exhibiting fowl.
And he had some sage advice.
“There’s no money it it – breed a lot and eat your mistakes!” he said with a laugh.

Congrats to Abbey Collins. The 5-year-old was very excited to just find out she’d won her category for a beaded necklace in the junior arts exhibits.
Even better was the news it came with a $5 prize!
It’s the first year entering exhibits at the Bega Show for the youngster. Well done Abbey!

What’s the future hold for newspapers? Good question Norm Pearce as we cover an event live to a website and broadcast video to Facebook, all while passers-by watch us fill in newsholes on a page for Tuesday’s paper edition.
But I feel the paper has a strong future yet, particularly in regional areas. More and more readers are heading to the digital sphere for their news, but in districts like ours there is still a lot of love for the paper product!
Your thoughts? Ben.

Are you enjoying the show? We’d love to hear from you. Send us any photos you’d like included in our coverage to ben.smyth@fairfaxmedia.com.au

We have a special visitor with us at the moment. There would be very few people in the Bega district who don’t recognise former BDN reporter Claire Lupton. She brought us a story idea so we’ve let her get it ready herself with our new mobile digital system!
12.45pm
Did you catch our live stream of a Bega Show pavilion tour? Our first efforts at live to Facebook broadcasting so bear with us for the quality but we think it came up rather well!!

Bega Showgirl Georgia Shellard is enjoying the sights and sounds of the show.
“I’ve done a lot of talking today!” she says.
“This morning I watched the beef cattle judging and handed out a few ribbons, and watched a bit ot the goats as well.
“I’m enjoying seeing some familiar faces and having a chat.”
The pavilion is a nice spot to take in the creativity of Bega Valley locals Georgia says.
“Although I get a bit envious walking past the cakes section!”
As Bega Showgirl Georgia competed and won the zone final as well. She is off to Sydney Royal Easter Show for a week, March 15-23.
“I’m very nervous but very excited as well. I’ve been asking the previous showgirls lots of questions.
“They are probably sick of me – but I’ll keep asking til they say stop!”
12pm
A few passers-by talking about the Bega Memorial Clock Tower. First says it should stay although the intersection needs something done to improve safety. The very next visitor to the BDN stall says they want to see it moved...

The crowd is slowly picking up as the day brightens. Equestrian events are capturing much of the interest first thing today, but there is plenty on offer to keep the whole family entertained. Alasdair has just headed out with camera in hand. Stay tuned for what he brings back shortly.
10.35am
Proving the concept of news as it happens, a visitor to our BDN stall alerted us to an issue with a photo that ran in yesterday’s paper.
The damaged cars pictured along with our Cobargo Show car soccer follow up were not the cars involved in that event. They were part of the farm bike obstacle course. We apologise for any confusion.
10.30am
Former BDN journalist Ray Spencer dropped in to say hi. He’s in the pavilion as well with the Bega Masonic Lodge display of historic photos etc. Definitely worth a look.
10am
Just had a chat with one of our first visitors for the morning, Member for Eden-Monaro Peter Hendy.
He was interested to see the way we develop the paper digitally as well as giving us some insights into his new role as Assistant Cabinet Secretary.
Robbie Maples also dropped by the stall to watch as his picture from the opening of Tulgeen Group’s new Respite Service went live!
