Bombala will be there with a squad of 20
- Blue Heelers president Colin Ryan
The Canberra Raiders have thrown support behind headline Indigenous v All Stars men’s and women’s clashes that will run in Moruya on March 12.
Playing outfits for the men’s and women’s clashes have been sponsored by the Canberra club, which heaped praise on Group 16 for acknowledging talented Indigenous players.
The match has become a fan favourite and will this year feature a second full contact women’s game that echoes the men’s headline clash as Group 16’s best Indigenous stars take on all stars from the region.
The day will also feature the Group 16 under 16s and 18s rosters vying for a spot in the Southern Stingrays as both sides play trial selection games.
George Rose and Dylan Farrell will also be in attendance and chatting with fans as part of the One Deadly Step Indigenous health program.
On Saturday, March 19, the pre-season Nines tournament will be held in Narooma with a final draw to be announced this week.
Bombala Blue Heelers Rugby League president Colin Ryan said that Bombala will be fielding a team in the Nines.
“Bombala will be there with a squad of 20, we’ve still got a few weeks to sort it out,” he said.
A $1000 prize will be on offer for the winning club, with $500 going to the runners-up in the popular nine-a-side fixture that mimics the NRL’s Auckland Nines competition.
There will also be a relay sprint for the league’s speed demons to compete for a $200 prize.
“There will be someone from Bombala there who is willing to go in the relay sprint,” president Ryan said.
Last year, the returning Bay Tigers took out the top spot over the competition-hosting Eden Tigers at George Brown Oval.
Junior Rugby League rego
The Blue Heelers Junior Rugby League held a registration day at the pool on Saturday.
Club secretary Julie-Anne Robinson said the day was a success with enough registrations to field teams in the U7s, U8s, U9s, U12s, U14s and the girls League-Tag team.
The Junior Rugby League Club is now looking for volunteers to help things run more smoothly throughout the season.
The club is looking for anyone who can help, coaches, LeagueSafe and First Aid volunteers.
