This week’s Golden Oldie goes with the theme of Anzac Day. We have discovered this photo of an unknown soldier and the Bombala Times has no idea what his name is, what war he fought in or where he comes from.
On the back of the photo there is some writing which is very hard to make out.
The very scratchy writing looks like it has the words “3KD”, “W Col”; “4th” and “Wurfhall”, which are more than likely only partially correct, but very difficult to make out.
If anyone out there has any idea who this man is, or what force, regiment or rank he is we would love to know.
Any information you may have about this man can be forwarded to Bombala Times journalist Jeanne Medlicott at jeanne.medlicott@fairfaxmedia.com.au or you can call her on 0439 534 666.
Last week in the Bombala Times we published a photo of Cathcart Public School way back in 1949.
We heard from Sheryle Toms who got the information from her Uncle John of some of the following names.
Front row Betty Thompson’ 4th person in Rhonda Cottrell; Joan Murphy, ? Gaunson. Second row centre is Nancy Cowell and Rosey Brotherton. Back row from left is Brian Rankin, Billy Shields, Max Ingram, Stan Cowell and second from end is Alan Rankin.
It’s not all the names, but it’s a start.
If you can help with any information about these photos we would love to hear from you.
