The new Bombala Council, made up of Councillors Bob Stewart, Joe Ingram, Sue Haslingden, Steve Goodyer, Diane Hampshire, Bill Bateman and Brad Yelds, met for the first time last week.
THE newly elected Bombala Council held its inaugural meeting on Wednesday night, October 3, with the election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor being the order of business.
In a popular result, Councillor Bob Stewart was re-elected to the position of Mayor unopposed.
There were two standing for the position of Deputy Mayor, however, with both Councillor Brad Yelds and Councillor Diane Hampshire vying for the role.
Cr Yelds was successful, being elected as the Deputy Mayor on a count of five votes to two.
Both the Mayor and Deputy Mayor were naturally pleased with the result of the election, which will see them hold these positions for the next 12 months.
“I was humbled to have the full support of the Council to be re-elected unopposed, and really look forward to working with the new team,” Cr Stewart said.
“With Councillor Yelds being Deputy Mayor, and the Council having both experienced and new members on board, I am sure we will have a good working group to face the challenges ahead.”
Councillor Yelds gave his thanks to both the community for voting him onto Council again this term, and the Council for electing him as Deputy Mayor, also expressing his enthusiasm about the year ahead.
During the extra-ordinary meeting the Council Committees were also finalised, while it was decided to keep the current format of Council meeting the third Wednesday of every month at 6.30pm.
The next ordinary Bombala Council meeting will be held at the Delegate Hotel on October 17.
