The school's service was an opportunity to reflect on the first Anzac Day held in 1916 and think about the hardships the Australian and New Zealand soldiers faced on the Gallipoli peninsula, particularly in battles such as Lone Pine.
The Battle of Lone Pine was fought between Australian and Turkish forces from August 6-10, 1915, as part of a diversionary attack to draw Turk attention away from the main assaults of the Gallipoli campaign
The fighting has been described as "some of the fiercest" the Australians experienced during the campaign to that point.
The pupils also had the opportunity to reflect upon the meaning of Anzac Day, by reading out a personal response they had developed to reflect the significance of the occasion.
The seedling is the third Lone Pine to be planted in Nimmitabel, with two currently planted at the town's cenotaph.
